The Ötztal valley is a paradise for bikers. Get to know the area in an unobtrusive and polite way. Quiet trail passages along the Ötztal Ache river spare your powers and give plenty of time for enjoying the landscape along the way. Brief ascents are followed by relaxing even passages. In safe distance to the main road you get to the village of Sautens. Your first station is a peaceful village with narrow roads and old buildings and guesthouses.

Between Sautens and Oetz you ride along softly-descending meadows on the western side of the valley. Broad gravel roads alternate with quiet, remote asphalt streets. Only between the villages of Oetz and Habichen the first, brief ascents have to be conquered. The surroundings offer all nature lovers can ask for. Broad Alpine meadows that carpet the area in green, shady mountain forests, bubbly mountain brooks that are flanked by old Tirolean farm houses.

Mountain bike trails in the anterior Ötztal Valley

In Tumpen the tour leads across a bridge to the other side of the valley. You visit quaint, rural villages like Platzl and Lehn, where the farmers pursue their regular work and tourism is unheard of. You pass sports climbers that conquer routes in the jagged Engelswand rock face. Off the busy main road, bikers explore the quiet and hidden corners of the Ötztal valley between Umhausen and Längenfeld and get to know the idyll of the unspoilt Ötztal valley.

Getting to the village of Längenfeld the valley gets broader. The next 20km of the trail are even and lead to the village of Aschbach. From there steep passages continue to the village of Sölden.

Mountain bike trails in the central Ötztal Valley

Near Sölden you have the opportunity to make a short detour to the remote Gaislachalm pasture. More leisurely is the main serpentine road that leads to the village of Obergurgl. After the turn to Timmelsjoch pass in Poschach you reach the home stretch to Obergurgl. Passing the center of this lively village, ideal terrain for sporty bikers starts. Already the first bend in direction Nederhütte hut is a true challenge. A less steep and more relaxing passage follows before the last merciless ascent to Schönwieshütte hut starts. Powerful pedaling and good concentration are in demand here. At your left is the Rotmoosferner glacier, in its foothills bubbling brooks full of melted snow and ice. Lush Alpine meadows and the homey terrace in front of the hut are next to you. Little time for recovering. After a brief even passage there is sure to be a steep ascent. The final serpentines leading to Karlsruher Hütte mountain hut are framed by rocky faces. The brief downhill just before the hut seems an unnecessary bonus.
